The Raptors are coming off a win, and their next opponent is the Hornets. Terry Rozier was a bright light for the Hornets, and our NBA choices are based on the assumption that he would continue his hot shooting from long.

Toronto has won two games in a row, but they still haven’t solved the problems that have plagued them for the past month. In hosting LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets for a second straight game, they will be facing a squad with even more issues.

On Tuesday night, despite being 8-point home underdogs to Charlotte, Toronto came out on top in a thrilling 132-120 victory. It’s no shock that they’re an 8-point favorite in Game 2 of this series, but the real question is whether or not they can defend the opposing team’s shooters and cover the spread once again.

Here are my NBA betting selections and predictions for the Hornets vs. the Raptors, where I analyze this Eastern Conference matchup and give you my best bet.

Hornets vs Raptors picks and predictions

Toronto defeated the Hornets in their previous matchup, but the Raptors’ issues with allowing Charlotte to shoot 55% from the floor and 43% from deep persisted in that game as well. Toronto’s weak shooting defense is a major contributor to the team’s 4-12 straight-up record during its previous 16 games.

For a squad praised early in the season for its stout defense, this has been a shocking development. Over the past 16 games, the Raptors have allowed opponents to shoot a 26th-best field goal % and a 28th-best three-point percentage, dropping them to 20th in defensive rating.

We took advantage of this by betting on Hornets shooting guard Terry Rozier to make Over 2.5 three-pointers in their game on Tuesday, and he delivered, going 5-for-9 from deep.

Rozier has found his shooting rhythm, whereas “Scary Terry” has struggled this year from deep, making only 32.4% of his 3-point tries.

In his previous five games, he has averaged 9.6 threes per game and has made four or more in each of those games (a percentage that sits at 39.6%). Rozier is receiving the same number at nearly equal money, so we’re going with a tried-and-true strategy for the second matchup.

Hornets vs Raptors spread analysis

Toronto began as 7.5-point home chalk in their Eastern clash, but early activity pushed the line to Raptors -8. Even though they were able to cover the identical amount on Tuesday night thanks to a strong fourth quarter, I’m still not confident betting them ATS here.

That’s because they didn’t stop the Hornets from playing anyhow. However, despite the setback, Charlotte still managed to score 120 points because to good shooting (55%) and a lack of help from Toronto’s defense. However, despite the fact that the Raptors’ offense had more freedom to work than usual against a Hornets’ defense riddled with more openings than a honeycomb, they still rank only 19th in offensive rating and 29th in effective field goal percentage.

In other words, Toronto’s attack may sputter even against favorable matchups. Even though the Raptors covered this line only two days ago against this very same club, they are still too erratic to back at such a large price. I’m not going to risk covering the spread in this game.

Hornets vs Raptors Over/Under analysis

The total for this rematch opened at 231 points, and while betting activity pushed that number down to 229 points the first time around, it has since stabilized at that level. This is likely due to the fact that both teams scored well over 20 points in excess of the aforementioned mark.

Although the Raptors have always been one of my favorite Under teams, I no longer feel confident in that prediction due to their current defensive woes.

They may not have the best offense in the NBA, but the Hornets are among the league’s fastest teams and shoot a lot of shots. The team’s scoring average has increased to 117 during the previous 10 games.

Also, Charlotte isn’t very strong defensively, as seen by the fact that they allow 118.5 points a game (28th in the league) and have the 28th-worst defensive rating (also 28th).

After Tuesday night’s dominance by the Raptors, I’m leaning toward the Over.
